  • I read most of the Price books about 25 years ago and enjoyed them then. So happy to be able to get easy access to them again through e-books.
The books tend to be about "minor" events in the world of spies but the focus is really on the characters, sometimes the main ones and sometimes the fringe characters. As long as you are not expecting world shaping events and Bourne-style hyper-action, you will not be disappointed.

The '44 Vintage is about some of the main characters when they were regular soldiers during the invasion of France in 1944, before they became spies. So this is a little different than the rest of the series but very enjoyable all the same, especially if you are somewhat familiar with the characters from other books. As usual the characters are well written and the book is a smooth read. I don't want to make it seem like these are very light reads, but they are not LeCarre dense and so are easy to pickup and enjoy. I particularly enjoyed this one because of the WW II military setting, so that's something to be aware of, in case that's not your cup of tea.

  • Unfortunately I wasn't really keen on this title. I found the time setting the most interesting factor. The only other title I have read by Mr. Price is The Alamut Ambush & this was average fare. The 44 Vintage unfortunately was not a good one. Below average for it's type.

  • Price's novels are unusual even unique in their combination of history, suspense and action. I first read them thirty years ago and it is a great pleasure to re-read them now on my kindle.
